Dave's Perspective
One of the reasons my wife, Selina, and I purchased North Georgia Smoke Shop was that we believed our community deserved more than a place to purchase products. We wanted to build a business that customers could trust for honest information, thoughtful recommendations, and a long-term commitment to operating responsibly.
That philosophy has guided every major decision we've made since taking ownership.
Before entering the smoke shop industry, I spent more than two decades in product management, brand management, e-commerce, and P&L leadership with several Fortune 500 companies. Throughout that time, I watched industries evolve as consumer preferences changed, technologies advanced, competitors entered the marketplace, and regulations shifted. One lesson remained remarkably consistent: businesses that endure are rarely the ones that resist change. They are the ones that adapt while remaining true to their values.
I believe the hemp industry is no different. The regulatory environment surrounding hemp-derived products has changed repeatedly over the past several years, and I fully expect it will continue evolving. Some products that were once widely available have disappeared. New products have emerged. Scientific research continues to expand our understanding of cannabinoids and other botanical compounds. Government agencies continue evaluating products as new information becomes available.
None of those developments surprise me. What matters is how businesses respond.
At North Georgia Smoke Shop, our response will always begin with compliance. If a product is lawful to sell, we will carefully evaluate whether it meets our standards for quality, transparency, and customer value. If the law changes, we will comply with those changes promptly and completely.
Our responsibility extends beyond simply following the law. We also believe we have a responsibility to communicate honestly with our customers.
That means acknowledging when information is still developing. It means distinguishing between confirmed facts and speculation. It means admitting when we don't yet know the answer to a customer's question rather than pretending we do.
In today's world, it is remarkably easy to find someone online who sounds completely certain about almost anything. Unfortunately, confidence and accuracy are not always the same thing.
I would much rather tell a customer, "We're still waiting for additional guidance," than provide an answer that later proves to be incorrect.
Trust is built slowly, but it can be lost very quickly.
That is one of the reasons we created the North Georgia Smoke Shop Knowledge Center. Rather than relying solely on product descriptions or marketing materials, we wanted to create a resource where customers could learn about cannabinoids, botanical products, industry terminology, product quality, and regulatory developments in a thoughtful and balanced way.
This article is a good example of that philosophy.
The purpose of this article is not to encourage anyone to purchase a product before regulations change, nor is it intended to discourage customers from purchasing products that remain lawful today. Our goal is much simpler. We want our customers to understand what is happening, why it matters, and how the regulatory process works so they can make informed decisions based on reliable information rather than internet rumors.
No one knows exactly how the DEA's proposal will ultimately affect the marketplace. We will continue following developments closely, and when meaningful information becomes available, we will share it here.
Regardless of what happens with 7-OH or any other product category, our commitment will remain the same. We will continue operating responsibly, complying with applicable laws, carefully evaluating the products we carry, and treating every customer with honesty and respect.
Long-term trust has always been more important to us than any individual product.
